Unlike anything else on the market, this dry riser outlet covers’ unique design encapsulates the entire valve unit, to protect against unauthorised tampering and vandalism. Made from compounded Flame Retardant UL 94 V-0 ABS Red plastic, this innovative new cover protects the outlet valve to reduce the impact on firefighting effectiveness in an emergency.

The cover is hinged with a fixing point for an FB1 Fire Brigade lever padlock, making it easy to install and remove by authorised personnel, either for maintenance or annual inspection purposes or in an emergency when lives could depend on it.

If a faulty valve should start to leak water, the dry riser outlet cover design allows for water to escape via the hinge mechanism. Therefore, visible leak detection will still be possible for dry riser system maintenance personnel.

Structure

After trials, the wall section of the cover was increased up to 3.10mm in places improve the fundamental stability and strengthening as well as raising the flammability standards of the Cover. Next, we incorporated internal ribs to add further rigidity to address flexibility in areas when put under pressure. Consideration was made to keep these adjustments to a minimum and therefore maintain product compatibility across a wide range of valve manufacturing brands.

Fit for Purpose

It was always going to be a challenge to navigate the trade-offs between a high level of valve protection and the ease of accessibility by Fire and Rescue Services in an emergency. The cover design consists of two halves which hinge together using a cam hook locking system, together with an interlocking tab, specifically designed for use with the FB1 padlock.

When the cover is closed around the Dry Riser Outlet and FB1 padlock applied the overlap design creates a snug fit and prevents the cover from being prised apart without causing considerable damage.

Aesthetics

As a core design principle the covers design complements usability whilst enhancing functionality. Smooth edges and satin type grain finish promotes quality and fosters adoption, combined with an embossed ‘Dry Riser Outlet’ mark, and produced in compounded Flame Retardant UL 94 V-0 ABS Red brings the solution in line with other dry riser accessories in the marketplace.

iSON Anti-Vandal Cover vs ‘a Leather strap’!

For many years the leather strap has been the only cheap way of trying to prevent unauthorised use of the Dry Riser valves. The idea of the strap is to keep the landing valve in a closed position, by threading the Leather strap through the turn wheel and around the valve body.

One of the problems with this basic product is that the turn wheel can still be turned as the strap has an amount of play in it. The second problem is there is no protection for the blanking plug which can still be removed. The purpose of the strap is to stop interference and prevent unwanted tampering rather than just be a visual deterrent.
